Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 September 2026
Owner note (delete this box before launch): this is an accurate plain-language draft based on how the app actually works today. Have it reviewed by someone qualified for your region before you rely on it, fill in the contact address in the last section, and update the "third parties" list if you add or drop a service.
The short version
helloVigo helps you find people nearby to do activities with. To do that it stores your account details, whatever you choose to add to your profile, and the events and messages you create. It does not sell your data or show third-party ads. You can delete everything at any time from Settings.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and a password (or, if you use Google sign-in, the email and name Google shares). Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and never visible to us.
- Profile: your display name, and anything else you choose to add — a photo, up to four gallery photos, a favorite color, and activity interests or hobbies.
- Location: only if you turn it on. When you enable location, we store a single latitude/longitude point — a snapshot at that moment, not continuous tracking. It's used to show distances and match you with nearby activity. You can turn it off, or leave it off entirely.
- Phone number: only if you add one for text reminders. It is stored privately (other members can't see it) and used only to send the reminders you asked for.
- Content you create: events (activity, note, meeting spot, capacity, optional photo), messages in group and direct chats, ratings you give, and reports you file.
- Basic activity records: a lightweight log of things like when you signed up or enabled location, used to understand how the app is being used.
We do not collect precise background location, contacts, browsing history, or device identifiers for advertising.
Who can see what
- Other members: your display name, photo, gallery, rank, badges, activity interests, and past activity history are visible on your public profile to anyone signed in. Events you post are visible either to everyone signed in ("Public") or only to your friends ("Friends only") — your choice, per event.
- Meeting spot: the exact meeting spot of an event is hidden from someone until the host accepts their request to join.
- Never shown to other members: your email address, your phone number, and your password.
- Blocking: someone you block can't message you, send you a friend request, or see your events. They aren't told they've been blocked.
Third parties we use
These services process data on our behalf so the app can function. We don't sell data to anyone.
- Supabase — hosts the database and handles sign-in and authentication.
- Resend — sends transactional email (confirmation links, password resets, event reminders).
- OpenStreetMap — provides map tiles; your browser requests tiles for the map area you're viewing.
- Google — only if you choose "Continue with Google" for sign-in.
- Twilio — used to send text-message reminders, only if that feature is enabled and you've added a phone number.
How long we keep it
Your account data is kept until you delete your account. Public-chat messages are automatically cleared after a few days. Reports are kept while they're useful for keeping the community safe. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, events, messages, ratings, and connections are permanently removed.
Your choices
- Delete your account: Settings → Account → Delete my account. This is immediate and permanent.
- Turn off location at any time, or never turn it on.
- Turn off notifications and reminders per category in Settings.
- Access or correct your data: most of it is editable directly in the app. For anything else, contact us at the address below.
Children
helloVigo is not intended for anyone under 18. Don't create an account if you're under 18.
Changes & contact
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it here and update the date at the top. Questions or requests about your data: [your contact email].
